Fox McCloud is the acclaimed hero in the Star Fox franchise. First appearing in Star Fox for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Fox was the leader of a mercenary team of pilots called upon to help fight the mad scientist Andross and save the Lylat system. He and his team were set to appear once more in the sequel, Star Fox 2, for the Super Nintendo, but the game was never released.
Fox would resurface in Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 64. The game was essentially a remake of the original SNES game with expanded gameplay and an expanded backstory. Fox McCloud was said to be the son of legendary pilot and former leader of the Star Fox team, James McCloud, who thwarted Andross at the cost of his life. Fox would grow up to be a skilled pilot and lead a revitalized version of the Star Fox team against the rejuvenated threat of Andross.
Fox would go on to star in Star Fox Adventures on the Nintendo Gamecube, where he was tasked to investigate strange occurances on Dinosaur Planet alone, witht the rest of his team providing information or useful technology. He can also be found as the star of Star Fox Assault on the Gamecube, and Star Fox Command on Nintendo DS.
Fox McCloud is a skilled pilot, flying point for the Star Fox team. He specializes in using three vehicles in-particular: the Arwing, an aerial fighter craft, the Landmaster, a versatile tank, and the Blue Marine, a submarine armed with an unlimited supply of torpedoes. Out of his various craft, Fox does appear to be a capable hand to hand combatant, using his considerable speed and quickness to overwhelm opponents, and is also a capable marksman with a blaster pistol. He also proved to be a quick study when it came to learning to fight with Krystal’s Magic Staff.
Fox McCloud is also one of the many Nintendo characters featured prominently in the Super Smash Bros. franchise.
